As an introduction
To cut a long story short, Paul Boutinot was born into the business due to the fact his parents had been restaurateurs since the 1950’s. By the late 1970’s he was sourcing French wines for the family restaurant and founded ‘Boutinot’ as a wine company in 1980.
Paul’s aim was to find interesting wines from up and coming producers which would excel at their price on any restaurant list. Today we list over 800+ such wines for our restaurant customers and more than thirty years on, this philosophy still remains.
We’ve never been one to blow our own trumpet but when others are determined to blow it for us … what can you do? The Sommelier Wine Awards 2011 saw Boutinot take the Wine Merchant of the Year title for the 4th year running and we received a glowing endorsement from Competition Director and Imbibe Magazine Editor, Chris Losh…
“Another Sommelier Wine Awards, another runaway victory for the team at Boutinot. Yes, they entered a good swathe of wines… but their hit rate of entries to medals was excellent. Significantly, too, they didn’t achieve it by flooding the competition with expensive ‘sommelier catnip’ wines – more than half of their medal winners were under £10, which is quite an achievement in the current climate. Though eight Golds over £20 shows that they can ‘do’ trophy wines as well” Chris Losh, Competition Director (SWA)
Our commitment to and understanding of the restaurant sector is as strong now as it was when Paul started the business more than thirty years ago.
